Whirinaki at Galatea


Site Info:
The Whirinaki water level recorder is situated in the lower Whirinaki catchment, some 6 km upstream of its confluence with the Rangitaiki River. The site is owned and operated by NIWA with the support of Trust Power; their assistance with the provision of this data is gratefully acknowledged.
Summer water levels at this site can get as low as 1.4 metres, but normal water levels are closer to 1.8 metres. A high flood level of 4.1 metres was recorded at this site in July 2004.
Historically this site has recorded daily rainfalls of up to 120 mm.
