Site Info:
The Lake Rotorua lake level recorder is located at Mission Bay, near the Ohau Channel. Data from this site is used to assist with the management of levels within Lake Rotorua.
Lake Rotorua drains into Lake Rotoiti via the Ohau channel. Prior to 1972 lake level was controlled by natural drainage through the Ohau Channel. In 1972 the Ohau channel control structure was commissioned which allowed for a limited degree of lake level control through the placement and removal of a series of stop-logs.
